What role should artificial intelligence play in education—for students and teachers, in classroom dynamics, and in educational content and teaching methods? This CSEN synthesis provides a state of the art of research advances on the role of virtual assistants in supporting both teachers and students. In particular, it examines how artificial intelligence tools can help strengthen peer-to-peer connections and follow-up among teachers.

This text was coordinated by Aurélie Jean and written by the CSEN working group “Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technology for Education.

Abstract

Based on an in-depth scientific review, interviews with researchers and engineers, and a survey of teachers, school leaders, and students, the report highlights perceptions and expectations regarding artificial intelligence in schools.

It emphasizes the challenges of adoption and the need for pedagogical support for the entire educational community—teachers, students, and parents.
